Photographing a wedding is not an easy job; this is a once-in-a-lifetime occasion for some people who want you to capture the happenings as it is forever. You won’t get subjects who will pose for you. The ambient lighting may not be very appropriate. You may not get a good place to position your photo studio equipments due to a moving crowd. Despite all these challenges, you are required to do a fabulous job. To overcome these issues you would need a few basic pieces of equipments available with any nearby photography store. Here are a few equipments that you must carry for your wedding shoot.
Lenses:
As a wedding photographer, you must have a good collection of high quality camera lenses. To shoot the entire church, wedding decoration, venue, etc. you will need a wide angle lens that will allow you to shoot in f/2.8 range. For close-up shots of the bride, groom, and couple shots, you will need a telephoto lens. A wide lens will help you capture family photos. So while packing your bags for a wedding shots, make sure you include all of them.
Tripod
A sturdy tripod that can completely balance your camera and can help you eliminate any unwanted camera shake is a must-have for your wedding photography project. Whether you are using a slow shutter speed to deal with low light conditions or simply for balancing your camera, a tripod will go a long way in giving you crispy pictures.
Extra batteries
You cannot guarantee the longevity of your current batteries and therefore, carrying an extra pair of battery or a battery grip is sure to save you during bad times. Before leaving for your wedding photography project, make sure all the batteries are properly charged.
Memory cards
The more photographs you capture, the more options you will have for delivering to your client. Therefore, you need to click more than one picture of every shot. Again, you will have to shoot in raw so that you can do the required post-editing. All the images you take must be in high-resolution so that the prints are of good quality. For all this, you will need a lot of memory. Make sure you always have a couple of reliable memory cards so that you are not limited by space.
Flash/strobe/speedlight
You cannot be dependent on ambient light and therefore, always carry additional light sources such as a flash, strobe, or speedlight. Whichever equipment you choose, you have to diffuse the light coming out of them. Carry some diffusers, reflectors, and other photo studio equipments that will help you play with light.
Experts recommend carrying a spare camera in case your regular one stops working due to technical error or gets damaged during the shoot. Many photographers also carry a backdrop to take portraits of the newlyweds. Also, you need to carry all the backup equipments in order to avoid any unwanted situations. Make sure that there is no loophole, as this is someone’s special occasion.
